How Does truSculpt iD Work?

TruSculpt iD is a nonsurgical body contouring treatment that uses innovative monopolar radiofrequency (RF) technology to destroy fat cells. The device selectively targets the fat layer and therapeutically heats fat cells until they sustain too much damage to survive. An average of 24% fat reduction is achieved with just one truSculpt iD treatment. 

How Does truSculpt iD Destroy Fat Cells?

The truSculpt iD system utilises the power of thermal energy to permanently eliminate fat cells. A headpiece is secured over the selected treatment area and gradually heats in cycles. The monopolar RF energy flows from the handpiece into the fat layer, heating the entire fat layer evenly while maintaining a comfortable skin temperature. The energy delivery is automatically adjusted to reach and sustain a therapeutic temperature of over 45ºC in the fat layer, while the skin temperature consistently stays 3-4ºC cooler.

By heating the fat cells, truSculpt iD triggers apoptosis (programmed cell death). The cells are irreversibly damaged and then excreted through the body naturally over a 12-week period.

What About Skin Laxity? 

In addition to its fat reduction benefits, truSculpt iD can also improve skin laxity by prompting the body’s natural regenerative abilities to increase the production of skin-supporting proteins. Radiofrequency technology like that found in the truSculpt iD system has been used extensively as a tool for skin tightening.

Six truSculpt iD handpieces can be applied simultaneously to a treatment area, such as the abdomen and flanks, in a 15-minute session. Some areas require fewer handpieces. 

How Is truSculpt iD Different Than Other Body Sculpting Procedures?

Body sculpting, or body contouring, is an umbrella term that refers to cosmetic treatments designed to enhance the shape of the body. Body sculpting treatments can be surgical or nonsurgical and primarily focus on one or more of the following goals: fat reduction, skin tightening or muscle building.

With truSculpt iD, you can treat any stubborn fat on your body, exactly where you need it most. This is different from many other body sculpting treatments, which are restricted by their applicators. TruSculpt iD is also unique among body sculpting procedures because it treats unwanted fat and loose skin at the same time and is FDA and TGA cleared for treating patients with a BMI greater than 30. The treatment involves minimal discomfort and takes just 15 minutes for up to six areas. 

How Does truSculpt iD Differ From CoolSculpting?

TruSculpt iD differs from CoolSculpting, a popular body contouring treatment, in several key ways. One of the most important differences is the mechanism of action. CoolSculpting destroys fat cells by freezing them, while truSculpt iD uses heat generated by radiofrequency energy. This leads to an average of 20-25% fat reduction in one session with CoolSculpting and an average of 24% fat reduction in one session with truSculpt iD. 

The use of RF energy gives truSculpt iD a variety of other advantages over CoolSculpting. TruSculpt iD can treat non-pinchable fat, skin with laxity and patients with a BMI over 30. CoolSculpting is not designed to achieve any of these goals, making it a significantly less versatile procedure.

TruSculpt iD also surpasses CoolSculpting in patient safety, comfort and convenience. Six handpieces can be used at a time during a 15-minute TruSculpt iD treatment. CoolSculpting applicators are more limited in number and style. It takes CoolSculpting 105 minutes to treat a similar area that truSculpt iD can treat in 15 minutes. Patients generally tolerate the ‘hot stone massage’ feeling of a TruSculpt iD treatment well. CoolSculpting, on the other hand, can be painful for some patients. Common sensations including pulling, pinching, intense cold, tingling, cramping and aching. 

The contrast in discomfort continues after treatment. After a TruSculpt iD session, the treatment area may be warm and flush, with light sensitivity to touch that settles very quickly. CoolSculpting requires a massage of the frozen tissue post-treatment, which many patients find uncomfortable. CoolSculpting patients also tend to experience more side effects, such as redness, blanching, bruising, swelling, stinging, firmness, aching, tenderness, itching, cramping or skin sensitivity in the treated area.

How Does truSculpt iD Feel During Treatment?

Most people experience minimal discomfort during a truSculpt iD treatment. The warming sensation of the treatment is often compared to the feeling of a hot stone massage.

Is There Really No Downtime?

That’s right. You can resume normal activities and exercise immediately following the treatment. After the procedure, the treatment area will be warm and flushed for up to one hour. You may experience mild touch sensitivity for a few days. 

How Many truSculpt iD Treatments Are Required?

Typically, two truSculpt iD treatment are needed to produce sufficient fat reduction and skin tightening. Additional sessions may be required to achieve the personalised results you desire.

When Will I See Results From truSculpt iD?  

Results appear gradually because truSculpt iD relies on your body’s natural processes to eliminate treated fat cells. You may notice flattening or tightening in the treatment areas in approximately six weeks. More significant improvements tend to become apparent about 12 weeks after your session. Maximum results are visible after 12 weeks.

Is truSculpt iD Safe for All Skin Types?

Yes, truSculpt iD treatments can be done on all skin types and over tattoos.

Who Should Avoid This Treatment?

TruSculpt iD is not suitable for you if you have a pacemaker, have metal implants in the area to be treated or are currently pregnant.

Is the Fat Reduction Effect of truSculpt iD Permanent?

Yes. The treated fat cells will not come back. TruSculpt iD treatments permanently kill fat cells, so your body sculpting results can last indefinitely as long as your weight remains stable. Make exercise and a healthy diet part of your regular routine to maintain your results over time.

Does truSculpt iD Replace Exercise and a Healthy Diet?

No. TruSculpt iD is designed to treat localised fat that is resistant to diet and exercise. It complements a healthy lifestyle, but it certainly does not replace it. TruSculpt iD is not a weight-loss procedure. The best candidates are relatively fit and active already with areas of stubborn fat.

How Much Does truSculpt iD Cost?
