What Concerns Can a HydraFacial Treat?

HydraFacial addresses an extensive range of skin concerns, including:

  • Comedones (blackheads and whiteheads) and acne
  • Oily and congested skin
  • Irregular skin tone
  • Irregular skin texture
  • Brown spots
  • Dull complexion
  • Fine lines and wrinkles

Why Is HydraFacial Better Than Microdermabrasion or Hydrodermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a physical exfoliation treatment that uses medical-grade crystals or a diamond tip to abrade the outermost layer of the skin, stimulating cellular turnover and renewal. In a similar fashion, hydrodermabrasion uses a specialised tip to abrade the skin but adds a liquid component that flushes away the loosened debris. These approaches can be too aggressive for certain skin types, especially for those with rosacea, and if used too often, can impair skin barrier function and have a negative impact on skin health.

During a HydraFacial, dermabrasion is incorporated into the first step of the treatment. It is performed using the patented Hydropeel tip to enhance skin cleansing and prepare the skin for the treatment modalities that follow. Each step of the HydraFacial builds on the previous steps to produce better results than could be achieved if the treatments were performed alone. The result is a comprehensive treatment in which no single step is overly aggressive on the skin, making HydraFacial suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin.

Why Do We Not Recommend or Perform Microdermabrasion or Hydrodermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion and hydrodermabrasion are harsh on the skin. Both treatments abrade the skin in a manner similar to sandpaper, impairing skin barrier function.

What Happens During a HydraFacial?

HydraFacial is a multi-step process that can be customised to the needs of your skin. The first step cleanses and exfoliates, removing dead skin cells and surface debris. The second step is a gentle acid peel that softens and clears clogged pores without irritation. Step three focuses on painless extractions using vacuum suction to draw out impurities. The final step delivers vital nutrients like antioxidants, peptides and hyaluronic acid to nourish and protect the skin. A session lasts approximately 30 minutes. There is no downtime after treatment.

Does the HydraFacial hurt?

A HydraFacial is not painful. The device’s spiral suction tip gently dislodges impurities without squeezing, pressing or using harsh chemicals. Patients often compare the feeling to a light massage.

What Results Can a HydraFacial Achieve?

A HydraFacial can immediately improve skin tone, texture and radiance. Over time, ongoing HydraFacial treatments enhance skin health and can help improve the results of skincare products and other advanced cosmetic treatments. HydraFacial is an excellent option for many patients who want an effective facial rejuvenation treatment that is noninvasive, non-irritating and does not involve downtime.

How Often Should I Get a HydraFacial?

One HydraFacial per month is recommended for best results. You can see an instant improvement in your skin after your first treatment. Over four to six sessions, you will notice your results lasting longer after each treatment. Skin health peaks around the sixth treatment and your results stay consistent. You can continue to have regular HydraFacial treatments to maintain the positive effects, or you can move onto other advanced treatments or a combination treatment program to create long-lasting results. Your specialist dermatologists or your dermal clinicians can recommend an appropriate course of treatment based on your skin goals.

Can Anyone Have a HydraFacial?

HydraFacial is a mild procedure that’s suitable for all ages, skin tones and skin types, including sensitive skin. Most people interested in refreshing their skin with a HydraFacial can safely undergo this treatment. However, it may not be appropriate if you are pregnant or have a salicylate sensitivity. Book a complimentary consultation with our dermal therapist to find out if HydraFacial is right for you.

What does Dr Liu Say About the Hydrafacial?

Dr Liu recommends the HydraFacial for many reasons:

  • It’s great for treating comedones and oily skin
  • It can be useful for painless comedone extraction prior to commencing isotretinoin (for acne) to facilitate a smoother transition to treatment
  • It’s an effective method of infusing active ingredients into your skin
  • It prepares the skin in order to optimise the absorption of active ingredients in your everyday skincare products
  • It can be used to prepare your skin for a laser– or energy-based treatment and enhance your results after the additional treatment
  • It’s suitable for patients with sensitive skin
  • It’s a versatile treatment that can simultaneously address medical concerns (such as acne and comedones) and be used for rejuvenation purposes (such as active ingredient infusion and maintenance of skin health)
