Yes, if seeing a specialist dermatologist – a GP referral lets you claim a Medicare rebate. No referral is needed for GP specialists or cosmetic consultations. GP referrals are valid for 12 months; specialist referrals for 3 months.
No. Private health insurance does not cover out-of-hospital consultations or procedures in Australia.
Come without makeup if possible. Bring your referral letter, completed health questionnaire, any previous results, and arrive 15 minutes early if it’s your first visit.
We tend to focus on 1–2 concerns per visit to ensure each is adequately addressed. Let your dermatologist know upfront so the most important issues can be prioritised.
Come without makeup, stop non-essential blood thinners one week prior (check with your doctor first), and avoid injectables two weeks before any important events. If you have an active inflammatory skin condition such as acne or dermatitis, please see a doctor to have this treated before proceeding with injectables.
An $80 fee applies to missed appointments. Repeated non-attendance may require prepayment when rebooking.
